Waste Waning Wednesday #6

Our past week was amazing. The final day of the week (that’s Sunday for us, if you’re wondering) in particular was incredibly fun. There weren’t any specific dinners or events throughout the week, so instead we’re talking about a few things that we’ve used repeatedly over the past month or so! Enjoy what is already our sixth weekly diary.   Relaxing bath time When we first realized the apartment we were moving into had a bathtub, we visited a Lush store that same week. After settling down, we ran our first bath and plopped in a bright blue bath bomb.…

A zero waste lifestyle can be daunting

In particular in the western world, many of us are brought up quite spoiled. Sure, each parent raises their kids differently, but it’s often that I see kids in stores cry until they get the toy or candy bar they so desperately want. Once raised in a world where everything is up for grabs, it’s hard to steer away from these habits. Coming from such a culture, a zero waste lifestyle can feel like quite an arduous journey, especially when just starting out. But it’s not just the difficulty of changing your habits, there’s a lot more that comes into…

Waste Waning Wednesday #3

We love our zero waste journey. Though frustrating at times, it feels good to be doing better. We’re aware of the choices we make every day. And seeing that once more we managed to write such a long weekly diary is a slice of proof to ourselves that we’ve been aware for seven more days. Every week, I’m more excited to write this post, and I’m already curious to see what we’ll have to document next! Over the past few days, we’ve been closely observing our sauerkraut, morning and night. We removed the top cabbage leaf that was pressing down…

Waste Waning Wednesday #2

What started off feeling as a slow and unsuccessful week ended being incredibly satisfying! But before we share this week’s zero waste diary, we’re sharing an intriguing observation we made on Monday. A man was drinking a bottle of Coca Cola on the platform. When his train arrived, he flung the half-full bottle of coke in the bushes behind him and got on. Where we actively think about waste limitation and act accordingly (most of the time), this man had not a care in the world. Where we choose to drink water, indulging with an aluminum can of soda every…

Waste Waning Wednesday #1

Over the past few weeks, our lives have changed quite a bit. Our passion for a zero waste lifestyle however has remained. We have realized that options to live a life with zero waste are different in every area, and that our location influences our success. It’s not about the ‘zero’ in zero waste. What’s most important is that we care. That we put in effort to do better; any effort counts no matter how big or small it may be! That’s why we decided to write a weekly waste waning diary that we’ll share with you every Wednesday. We’ll…

The zero waste adventures of: Shia Su

Plastic free july may have stopped, but we're not done yet! Its time for episode 6. We love that so many have taken the time to write something for us to help inspire anyone thinking about starting with their zero waste adventure. This time it's a little different. Instead of a story written by our guest, we've asked Shia Su - maybe better known by many as Wasteland Rebel - to answer a set of 5 questions for us. Don't worry though, as it's still focused around the same topic as all of our previous stories. We hope you'll like…
